After all, everyone is in the <\/span><b>mood to shop<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, right?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No! In fact, it\u2019s one of the trickiest periods for eCommerce marketing. When everyone\u2019s offering <\/span><b>unbelievable deals<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, how do you steal the show? And what can you be doing now in April and May to make a big difference for July?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The answer to the second question, research and planning, will help us answer the first. For research and planning, let\u2019s take a look at how we made an extra $28K on one Independence Day campaign this past year. It wasn\u2019t easy due to a number of challenges that seemed to stack the deck against us&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>The Challenges:<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Every inbox <\/span><b>gets flooded<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with the 4th of July promos each year. It can be difficult to stand out from the crowd.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The heavy use of \u2018salesy\u2019 words can affect<\/span><b> deliverability<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. How can you ensure optimal open rates and CTR\u2019s?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Clients often have <\/span><b>great expectations<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from Independence Day campaigns, given that it\u2019s the biggest Summer holiday.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our highest holiday revenue in the past was from offering deep discounts as a thankyou to <\/span><b>focused segments of our best return-buyers (VIPs)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. However, the <\/span><b>type of product to promote this time is long-lasting and not conducive to repeat purchases.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> We therefore <\/span><b>couldn\u2019t rely on VIPs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which numbered<\/span><b> merely a thousand prospects on our list.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>The Strategy:<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But we\u2019ve found that, regardless of the hand you\u2019re dealt, segmentation can often be your ace in the hole. So we got to work by segmenting the overall subscriber list based on factors such as customer traits, buying patterns and levels of engagement. Using Klaviyo\u2019s <\/span><b>advanced segmentation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>customization <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">capabilities, we were able to design flows and campaigns that delivered a personalized brand experience to customers through email.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>? [Part 1] The Segmentation: We Created 3 Segments Based on Behavior<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h4><b>#1 The Extra Engaged Segment:<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; One thing we\u2019re doing well with this store is <\/span><b>engaging the subscribers<\/b> <b>in our nurturing newsletters.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> We give them good content specifically targeted to their interests. So we decided to focus our energy at those engaged people.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; We created a special segment of Extra Engaged People. Now, those are not just your typical readers; those are the<\/span><b> people who opened and clicked multiple emails, multiple times in recent weeks.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<h4><b>#2 The Regular Engaged Segment:<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; People who opened, clicked or <\/span><b>engaged<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with the store<\/span><b> at least once<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the last <\/span><b>60 days<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as it\u2019s a proven formula. They get the <\/span><b>lower discount<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> offer than our <\/span><b>Extra Engaged Segment <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and our VIPs, but we still expect good revenue from this segment due to its large size. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>#3 The VIPs:<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; The return buyers that need to get a good deal as well, but we didn\u2019t expect much out of them due to the typically single-purchase nature of the product.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>? [Part 2] The Email Strategy: We Made 3 Automated Email Sequences<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; We created 3 Promotional Flows (temporary automated email sequences) &#8211; 1 for each segment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Logic remained the same for each flow:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Email #1 Offer + Re-Send a Day After<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Email #2 Follow-up + Re-Send a Day After<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Email #3 Follow-up + Re-Send a Day After<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Plus a Thankyou Email For Buyers After Each Email<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-2003 lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP\/\/\/yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.hustlermarketing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Image-1-1024x480.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1020\" height=\"478\" \/><noscript><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-2003 lazyload\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hustlermarketing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Image-1-1024x480.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1020\" height=\"478\" \/><\/noscript><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0a) This is the flow logic. You can also see the \u201cThank you\u201d emails that the buyers get, after which they exit the flow.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s Why&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Holiday Sales get busy and your emails can <\/span><b>easily get buried inside a pile of promotional offers in inboxes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The frequency of your sends therefore needs to be higher than normal. Otherwise, no one will even see your emails. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; The problem with that is if you send big blasts to your whole list, don\u2019t segment people by engagement and don\u2019t follow the rules of big email services (Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, etc.) your general <\/span><b>open rates will drop below 10%.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; With<\/span><b> carefully designed segments<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and<\/span><b> subtle <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">changes to re-sent emails, we\u2019re able to re-send the emails and still retain our good deliverability, avoiding spam filters.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-2005 lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP\/\/\/yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.hustlermarketing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Image-3-1024x478.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1020\" height=\"476\" \/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-2005 lazyload\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hustlermarketing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Image-3-1024x478.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1020\" height=\"476\" \/><\/noscript><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">c) As an example, you can see email #1 of the Extra Engaged segment, which had 42% open rates and made $5.8K from 14k recipients, because they were much more engaged and interested than the regular segment.\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-2006 lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP\/\/\/yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.hustlermarketing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Image-4-1024x475.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1020\" height=\"473\" \/><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-2006 lazyload\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hustlermarketing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Image-4-1024x475.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1020\" height=\"473\" \/><\/noscript><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">d) And the re-send that had 23% open rates and made $1.6k from about 10k people.
