People are busy with their families, organizing the celebrations, catching up with relatives and finally getting off their phones.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They\u2019re not really interested in buying stuff, plus they <\/span><b>spent a lot during Black Friday and on the actual Christmas promotions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which, of course, must occur earlier so products can get delivered by the 25th.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">? I even heard experts saying it\u2019s <\/span><b>safer not to send emails on 24th and 25th<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to avoid possible spam complaints. ?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But as all curious cats, we just had to try it\u2026. ?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And guess what\u2026 the store made an <\/span><b>extra $6k those 2 days<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, from 1 email and 2 follow-ups.?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a reference, on average, we send 3 emails per week, earning about $4k from them in 7 days, so this was definitely worth the risk.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Plus, no rise in spam complaints at all.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>? So why did it work?? ?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3><b> Good Offer:<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Instead of the usual X% off on anything and everything, we try to make the value more clear and specific for our readers. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We bundle specific products and product lines to present compelling offers to the prospect. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We find experimenting with different BOGO combinations, rather than discounts, works best.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We found that our target group buys more if they have a clear and specific picture of the offer&#8217;s exclusive value. Testing revealed a Buy 2-Get 1 generated the greatest revenue.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>The Right Recipients:<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019re even a little into email marketing, you know that segmentation is its foundation. You can\u2019t just blast your whole list and expect people to stay engaged, let alone for you to stay out of the spam folder.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We took only the recent openers and excluded all the addresses from certain problematic email services that haven\u2019t opened in the last 10-20 days.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Fresh Angle (context &amp; copy)<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Context:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For me, an angle means how you present something to a person based on their needs, desires, world views. This is essentialy how you think they would present it to themselves.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We examined the Buy 2 Xs Get 1 X Free offer and thought about how our recipients would sell it to themselves. Why buy 3 pairs of shoes for example?\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Well since it\u2019s Christmas, we get into this giving spirit and like to believe that the generous do get rewarded for their noble actions. And that if you give a gift, you start a gift-giving chain reaction.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Copy:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So let\u2019s say we angle it as \u201cHey, buy 2 pairs of these problem-solving shoes (for a specific niche) as gifts for someone, and you\u2019ll get a pair for free!\u201d That almost feels right, but something is missing. It sounds a bit regular and plain; they\u2019ve seen that offer a bunch of times before. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We all <\/span><b>get curious<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> when we something is presented for <\/span><b>free<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but it also <\/span><b>raises our guard <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a bit. There\u2019s a lot of <\/span><b>internet scams and fishy dropshipping offers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that give you something for free. It\u2019s even in human nature to doubt those free things and <\/span><b>expect<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> you\u2019ll get a surprise request after you take them.<\/span><b> Skepticism<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is natural and healthy to a degree, and we don\u2019t want to go against human nature. Also, if something is free, how good can its quality be?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And that\u2019s where I went back to the teachings of our good friend <\/span><b>Claude C Hopkins <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and found his discovery. He wrote:<\/span><b> instead of saying \u201cYou\u2019ll get free\u2026,\u201d rephrase it to \u201cI will buy you\u2026.\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This subtle change made a significant difference in conversion testing.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So we adapted that angle and decided to add a challenge to our readers.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Key: we wrote a plain-text personal email as the store owner.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\nWe said in our subject line: &#8220;Now Open: An Xmas Bet\u201d with the pre-header \u201cI bet I can prove to you that Christmas spirit is real and\u2026.\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This leads to us saying that we\u2019ll prove to the customer that the Christmas Spirit is real by continuing that chain of good deeds. Speaking as the store owner, we explained that we will<\/span><b> personally buy the recipient a pair of shoes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This makes it more real. Because quality products can\u2019t just be given away, we don\u2019t describe them as free.
